What is Airdrop?
A free distribution of tokens to wallets, used to reward early supporters, bootstrap a community, or market a launch.
An airdrop sends tokens to many wallets at once, usually for free. Memecoin teams use airdrops to reward early community members, attract holders, generate social buzz, or decentralize supply. Eligibility is often based on holding another token, completing social tasks, or being an active community member.
Well-designed airdrops include anti-snipe and anti-bot measures (allocation caps, vesting, snapshot timing) so that automated farmers do not capture and immediately dump the entire supply.
Airdrops are powerful but double-edged: a poorly planned one floods the market with sellers the moment tokens unlock.
